THE ROSE COURT COMPETITION

A CONTEMPORARY TAKE ON A TIMELESS TRADITION

 

A long-standing tradition of the Rose of New England’s history has been re-imagined! Today's Rose Court is an inclusive scholarship competition open to all genders while honoring tradition by demanding that candidates exemplify community pride, community involvement, intellect, and leadership.  

 

The competition will be judged by a mix of past winners, and prominent figures of the community.

 

Prizes:

Royal Rose Receives: 

  • $1,000 scholarship prize

  • $1,000 towards a private photo session with
    CS Marchand Photography   

  • Gift certificate to Love Me Two Times

  • The official representative of  The Rose Court
    at various future city events.

  • Crown, Sash, & Bouquet

1st Runner Up Receives:

  • $250 cash

  • Sash

  • Gift Certificate to Love Me Two Times Boutique

  • Invitation to participate in next year's competition

2nd Runner Up Receives:

  • $100 cash

  • Sash

  • Gift Certificate to Love Me Two Times Boutique

  • Invitation to participate in next year's competition
     

Additional Awards (optional entry)

  • Best Essay Award - $100 cash, official recognition by the Rose Court Committee

  • Congeniality Award - Official recognition by the Rose Court Committee, $50 gift certificate to Love Me Two Times

Applicant Criteria: 

Contestants must be 16-20 years old at the time of the Rose Arts Festival (Saturday, June 27, 2020).

All applicants must live within Southeastern Connecticut (20-mile radius of Norwich). 

Contest Requirements:

1) Creative entry piece (Submitted at registration, deadline Sunday, May 10, 2020)

        Use this year's theme "Hometown Hero" to inspire a creative piece. Creative works may be written (poetry,

        essay, short story), visual (artwork, sculpture, photography, video), or performance based (song, dance,     

        monologue).

 

2) Personal Interview (date TBD at Eliza Huntington)

 

3) Competition (June 2021 at Mohegan Sun Cabaret Theater)

Personal Presentation (Formal wear required)

Crowning by 2019 Royal Rose, Errien Williams

 

4) Recognition Ceremony (Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Rose Arts Festival)

Placement Announcements

All contestants will receive: personalized gift, participation medallion/trophy, complimentary head shots

by CS Marchand Photography, Rose Arts Festival t-shirt, and 25% discount at Love Me Two Times on

tux rental or formal wear purchase for competition.
